FOI reference: FOI-2024-1933

You asked

I want to make an FOI request for the number of Finished Admission Episodes (FAEs) and FCE’s for ‘assault with a sharp object’ for 0-19 year olds in the UK from 2012 - 2023.

Please can you let me know which ONS or NHS department to make this to?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We primarily produce statistics from two main sources, the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and Police Recorded Crime (PRC). Our publications and data concern crime as it is experienced by victims, or as it is recorded by the police.

We do publish some data on the number of hospital admissions in NHS hospitals in England and Wales for assault with sharp objects from the previous 10 years in Table F7 of our Other related tables. This is broken down by ages 0-24 years and 25+ years. The admissions are based on Finished Admission Episodes (FAEs).

This data is provided by NHS Digital and they may be able to assist you further on the data that you are looking for. You can contact them using their details on the following webpage: https://digital.nhs.uk/about-nhs-digital/contact-us. More data can also be found on their website using the following link: https://digital.nhs.uk/data-and-information/supplementary-information

If you have any other crime-related enquiries in the future, the ONS Centre for Crime and Justice can be reached at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk.
